D'Banj celebrates Children's day with newborn Daniel


D’Banj (Nigeria musician) revealed that he and his wife have welcomed their first child, Daniel Oyebanjo III into the world. Today being Children’s Day, the singer took to his Instagram page to share a loving photo of him and the new born captioning it:

Happy first #ChildrensDay@danieldthird … I can’t really explain this feeling, but I’m so blessed to have you.

Nigeria carved out May 27th of every year to celebrate the children. The 2017 edition coincides with the 91st global celebration of the rights and well-being of children.

In line with this year’s theme which hinges on child protection and the sustainable development goals, UNICEF has called for urgent action to adopt the Child Rights Act and to heed the President’s call to end violence against children. It is reported that millions of Nigerian children suffers from of physical, emotional or sexual violence.

In Lagos state, the Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode reassured Lagosians that his administration would do everything possible to ensure that the six pupils of the Government Model College, Igbonla in Epe who were kidnapped in the early hours of Thursday, are rescued unhurt. According to him, the children’s day celebration would not be complete without rescuing the innocent pupils. Ambode, therefore, noted that top security arrangement was on course to guarantee their safety, pledging that his government would stop at nothing to ensure that kidnapping and other criminal activities are put to an end in schools.


In Edo State, the government says it will from September 2017 commence the use of computers and tablets for teaching students, as part of measures to improve the educational standard of public schools.

Niger Delta youth demand removal of the South-South Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria from the Biafra map

Niger Delta youth under the support of Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC), vowed to resist war drums beaten by the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South-South geopolitical zone of the country. This was made known by the National Coordinator of the NDYC, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, after an emergency meeting held in Warri. He declared that youth in the South-South geopolitical zone of the country stand for United and Indivisible Nigeria, therefore called on leaders of IPOB to erase the region from its Biafra map with immediate effect.
